HOW TO USE THE BP WRIST CUFF

To use a wrist blood pressure cuff, first relax for 5 minutes after avoiding food, drink, and exercise for 30 minutes. Place the cuff on your bare wrist with the device on the palm side, 1-2 cm above your wrist bone. Secure the cuff snugly, sit with feet flat, and elevate your arm to heart level. Press the start button and remain still until the measurement is complete.
 

 

Before You Start

  1. Rest: Sit quietly for at least 5 minutes. 

     

  2. Avoid Stimulants: Do not smoke, drink alcohol, eat, or exercise within 30 minutes of the measurement. 

     

  3. Position Yourself: Sit in a chair with your feet flat on the floor and your back supported. 

     

Applying the Cuff

  1. Wear on Bare Skin: Remove any clothing that covers your arm. 

     

  2. Place the Cuff: Position the cuff on your wrist so the device’s display faces upward, towards your palm. 

     

  3. Position Above the Wrist Bone: Place the cuff about 1-2 cm (0.5 inches) away from the wrist bone. 

     

  4. Tighten Securely: Fasten the cuff with the Velcro so it is snug and secure but not constricting. 

     

Taking the Measurement

  1. Elevate to Heart Level: Rest your elbow on a table and raise your wrist to heart level for an accurate reading. Some monitors have a heart zone indicator light to ensure correct positioning. 

     

  2. Start the Device: Press the start/stop button to begin the measurement. 

     

  3. Stay Still: Remain calm and still, without moving or talking, during the measurement. 

     

  4. Read the Results: The results will appear on the digital display when the measurement is complete.

  1. Record: Note the date, time, and results to track your blood pressure over time.

  2. Repeat if Necessary: Take two readings about one minute apart to get a more reliable average.
